Niching Down: Does It Really Get You Clients?

In the past, I have struggled with defining my business.

The beauty of starting a business is the ability to learn and find what works best for you. Nevertheless, most business owners have heard about the importance of having a niche. Although it can help find clients, it isn't always necessary. The beauty of owning a business is having a lead say in something. Sometimes, it is important to embrace a broader perspective.

Note to self: stop depending on market research so much. Use it as a tool, not a crutch. Creativity is a 21st-century skill needed to progress in our ambiguous environment, so tap into your creative potential to innovate.

You see, I have had multiple interests and projects on the go at a time ever since I was younger. It is who I am as an individual to the bone. Those who know me personally can attest to that. Some might argue that it was a direct result of having ADHD, and others might argue that it was an inherent quality, but that is up for interpretation. That's beside the point; this translated when I started a creative studio. I discovered the vast world of graphic design during my bachelor's degree and, eventually, website design. That's where I started, and then, through further research, I fell in love with branding and, most recently, illustration, an interest I had neglected during my teenage years. What is wrong with having multiple interests and avenues you want to pursue? If you could help a wider variety of individuals, so be it.

Naturally, clients will come when you do great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do.
